She was the Executive Director for the Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society and was successful in obtaining significant annual funding for non-profit organizations who serve Albertans living with brain injury.

April has worked in many capacities and settings over the years including hospital, community, rehabilitation, school settings and private practice. More recently she has worked with veterans and their families, indigenous persons, survivors of complex trauma, school-age children, teachers and administrators as well as post-secondary students with mental health and/or learning disabilities.

April has also worked with families and parents for Family Justice Services both as a Family Mediator and as a clinician for 10 years and was involved in a voluntary capacity for the provincial initiative, Reformulation of Family Justice Services for 5 years. She can be heard on the CBC’s_ A_l_b_e_r_t_a@n_o_o_n _show as a guest speaker at times throughout the year, addressing topics related to relationships and families.

Due to her strong interest in neuropsychotherapy, she has undertaken additional training and certifications in brain therapy modalities over the past decade, including neurostimulation, neurofeedback, photobiomodulation and wearable technologies. She recently launched “NeuroThrive Networks Inc” to increase research for, and education about adaptive brain and mental health technologies and to increase awareness of the public, professionals, and professionals-in-training about the benefits of neurotherapies. Ultimately, her hope is to shift the orientation of brain and mental health services to a collaborative, interdisciplinary, strengths-based, and proactive approach that honours and safeguards the dignity and quality of life of individuals, while also increasing the accessibility to affordable and adaptive brain and mental health services.
